The ability to breathe was gone.
The want to breath was also gone; even as her lungs began to burn her body seemed pretty content with not fighting that battle. Her whole being too shocked to do anything but stare through the four that stood before her. Their words weighing down on her, just as much as the absolute silence that followed weighed on them.
Hurt, bloody, and beaten. Their faces showed more pain than what they were physically under; their eyes showed the mental pain they felt.
“April?” Donnie asked softly, his voice tight as he reached out to touch April’s shoulder.
“No.” She whispered as she drew back, her eyes finding their way to them again. To their faces, to the pain. “NO!” Her hands rose up to her face, sliding to the sides of her head as her body began to quake, her knees feeling weak. “Noooo, no.” She looked at them, staring at them as she backed away, w
